Have you felt like you've been hitting your sessions for the last few months but maybe feeling like you're not getting the progress you've wanted? Or maybe even felt a dip of motivation? Well here are 5 tips that will guarantee a higher performance in the gym, with better results and more motivation!
So here are 5 reasons WHY you do NOT want too much!
Choices: Summer is right around the corner and maybe social outings are starting to happen more frequent. Food will have the LARGEST effect on how we feel in the gym. If we are eating worse foods, then we will feel worse. But going out doesn't have to be boring, we just need to start making healthier decisions. It's about the little decisions you make such as choosing a grill chicken option over a fried chicken. It's choosing the salad over the french fries. It's choosing to drink water rather than constantly ordering a beer. It's about enjoying the delicious cooked meal and feeling satisfied, rather than ordering that extra app. or dessert to go overboard. That being said, the more good quality food you can cook at home, the better you will feel! You can control the ingredients, you can control HOW it was cooked, and you can control the portion. But when outings happen more, make good choices and you will feel a bigger difference in performance!
Hydrate: The weather is getting hot now! You will be sweating more and you will need more water + Electrolytes! Signs of not being hydrated enough is lower performance in workouts, cramping, dizziness, fatiguing quickly, not able to focus or concentrate during work hours, feeling lethargic, or even headaches. Make sure you are consuming lots of water + salting your foods with good quality salt.
Master the techniques: If you are constantly trying to hit a PR or push your limits every day, you will reach a plateau. Sometimes it's about keeping that belt off, lowering the weight, and feeling your core work really hard. Sometimes you gotta unlearn a bad habit on the pull-up bar that might make you take 1 step back, but will take you 3 steps forward. Leaving your ego at the door and peeling back, focusing on good quality movement, might take you beyond what you thought!
Pre/Post Workout: Are you walking into the gym and sitting down waiting for the coach to call you in to the board? Or are you getting your session done and walking out without stretching? I'll give you a personal and hopefully relatable anecdote. When I first got on the Echo bike years ago, it crushed me! So there was a 2-3 month period where I got on that machine before every class and did 25 Cals. Take those 5minutes before to do some stuff! And don't forget that if you have time for 5minutes of stretching after class, it will go a looooong way! SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES! Chronic inflammation has been directly linked to major health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune diseases!
Consistency is KEY: If you are showing up inconsistently every week, it will be very hard for your body & mind to make TRUE progress. We've now been open nearly 2 years, and some of you have been here since the beginning and I've seen HUGE progress because of the consistency over many, many months. Others have been at it for just a few months but have dove head first and been ultra consistent 4-5x per week, and its really incredible to see such a difference. But if you're here one week 3-4 times, and the next week you make it once...mayyyyybe twice. Your body will struggle to adapt, your mind will have a hard time to commit to the process, motivation will be extremely high one week but extremely low others. You need to tell yourself that training is a NON-NEGOTIABLE. "No matter what comes up, I'm at the gym Monday/wedneday/friday/sunday at 9am!" And nothing changes that... Not a friend wanting to go for brunch. Not a family member wanting to go for coffee. NOTHING.
Go through this checklist and let me know in the comments below which one you wanna work on?? I definitely know I want to work on post workout stretching😅
