So you may have heard about inflammation in the body but what is inflammation?
Inflammation is a natural response of the body's immune system to injury, infection, or irritation. It is a complex biological process that involves a series of chemical and cellular responses aimed at removing harmful stimuli and repairing damaged tissues.
All sounds great right?? Indeed! However, when we have too much inflammation in the body, this can be extremely harmful to our overall health!
So here are 5 reasons WHY you do NOT want too much!
Weight gain! If inflammation is higher, you are going to notice you are feeling swollen, bloated, gassy, etc. It will also disrupt your body's ability to regulate hunger as well as your metabolism.
Joint pain! Elbows, hips, back, knees, etc! Your body is feeling very achy because things are inflamed and swollen.
Depression and anxiety! Chronic inflammation has been linked to to higher rates of depression and anxiety! So if you're feeling more negative emotions, this might be why!
Immune system crash! Too much inflammation will impair your immune systems function, making it more difficult for the body to fight off infections and foreign invaders!
SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES! Chronic inflammation has been directly linked to major health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune diseases!
Well how do we even reduce inflammation in the body?!
Eat a diet that is primarily whole foods! Ultra processed foods are pro-inflammatory. Vegetable oils and excess sugar levels trigger inflammatory responses while delivering the body with nearly zero nutrients. Focus on eating foods that are higher in nutrients and fill you up! Think eating a baked potato vs eating potato chips. Eating blueberries instead of eating a "blueberry flavoured breakfast bar". Cooking with Extra virgin Olive oil instead of canola oil!
Regular exercise! Physical activity can help reduce inflammation by increasing circulation and promoting the release of anti-inflammatory compounds. MOVEMENT = MEDICINE!
Sleep 7-9 hours per night! Losing hours of sleep promotes inflammation levels! So make you are working on getting minimum 7 hours a night.
Stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water can help flush toxins from the body and reduce inflammation.
Limit alcohol consumption! Alcohol consumption can increase inflammation in the body, so limiting alcohol intake is important for reducing inflammation.
Hope this helps team! Have a great friday and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend!
